Dr. Moubayed is a surgical specialist at Clinique Face MD in Montreal in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Otolaryngology is the specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of all medical, surgical, and cosmetic conditions affecting the nose, face, and neck.
Dr. Moubayed’s main area of practice is Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, which is one of the seven subspecialties of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Moubayed is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Montreal where he has the chance to teach the future generations of doctors as well as perform research.
His main hospital practice is at the Centre Intégré Universitaire de Soins et de Services Sociaux (CIUSSS) du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
Dr. Moubayed immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 from Syria, and grew up in Cartierville in Montreal. He initially wanted to study graphic design and computer science, but gravitated towards medicine. He found in surgery a true passion, being a perfect balance between art and science.
He graduated medical school at the University of Montreal, and finished his residency training at the same university in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Each year, in Canada, less than 30 positions are available in this specialty, making it one of the most competitive to get into. He graduated in the top 10% of graduates of his discipline, on the Dean’s Honor List.
He also obtained the Subspecialization bursary, which is a prestigious award given yearly to a single student among 321 medical and surgical graduates.
He then went on to New York City at the prestigious Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to work under Dr. Mark Urken, one of the founding fathers of complex head and neck reconstruction.
He graduated with a fellowship in Head and Neck Microvascular Reconstruction and Oncology, accredited by the American Head and Neck Society. During these types of operations, which last often more than 6 hours, surgeons harvest tissue from patients’ arms, chest, or legs to reconstruct the face, and suture small blood vessels to blood vessels in the neck using tiny sutures as thin as hair.
He was then the first non-American to be admitted to the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program at prestigious Stanford University in California, which is often ranked first in world rankings.
He spent a year under the tutelage of Dr. Sam Most, one of the world leaders in rhinoplasty and facial surgery. This is one of the rare programs in the world that offers complete training in complex cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery and is accredited by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He graduated in the top 10% in North America at the specialty certifying examination.
Since graduating as a doctor, Dr. Moubayed counts over 3500 surgical procedures in the face and neck under his belt.
He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has a Specialist Certificate of the Collège des médecins du Québec.
He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS), the largest specialty board in the world for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Moubayed scored in the top 10% on the ABFPRS examination
