PRF Montreal

Rejuvenate Your Skin with Platelet-Rich Fibrin

Clinique Face MD

What is PRF?

PRF, or Platelet-Rich Fibrin, is a substance used to promote tissue healing and regeneration. It is derived from the patient’s own blood, which is collected and processed to isolate platelets and fibrin. These components are then injected or applied to the targeted area.

PRF contains a high concentration of platelets, which play a key role in the healing process. They contain growth factors that help stimulate the production of new cells and blood vessels, which can contribute to improving the appearance of scars and accelerating the healing process.

PRF is used in various medical procedures, including skin rejuvenation, and is considered a safe and effective treatment when performed by a qualified healthcare professional.

What Are the Main Reasons to Receive PRF Injections?

PRF is often used to promote healing and tissue regeneration in the facial area. Here are some of the main reasons people may receive PRF injections for the face:

To Improve the Appearance of Scars

PRF can help stimulate the production of new cells and blood vessels, which can contribute to improving the appearance of scars and smoothing the skin.

For Skin Rejuvenation

PRF can help stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that contributes to the skin’s structure and support. Therefore, PRF can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

To Enhance Skin Tone and Texture

PRF can contribute to improving overall skin health and appearance, giving it a more youthful and radiant look, especially around the eyes.

To Enhance the Results of Other Facial Treatments

PRF can be used in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation treatments, such as dermal fillers or laser resurfacing, to enhance overall results.

Non-Surgical treatment

PRF is a non-surgical treatment, meaning it requires no incisions other than the injection site, and there is no downtime.

Safe and Effective

PRF is derived from the patient’s own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or other adverse effects. It is considered a safe and effective treatment when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. It’s important to note that PRF is a medical treatment and should be administered by a qualified healthcare professional. They will be able to determine if PRF is suitable for you based on your specific needs and goals.

Learn More About Platelet-Rich Fibrin

What’s the Difference Between PRF and PRP?

While both are platelet concentrates, Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) differs from Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in its concentration. Compared to PRP, PRF has a platelet concentration about 2 to 5 times higher. Your blood is centrifuged more slowly during PRF, allowing some white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin to remain in the platelet layer. Since fewer cells are injured due to slow rotation, more healing platelets are preserved. With PRP, the plasma layer of your blood is completely separated by fast rotation in a centrifuge.

Secondly, while PRF is used as a filler product, PRP is typically used for hair loss treatment or microneedling of the face. PRF serves as a substitute for synthetic filler products as it contains slow-release fibrin and growth factors that help the skin gain volume. The recommended area for PRF injections at Clinique Face MD is under the eyes.

Finally, PRP contains anticoagulant additives. Anticoagulants are not added when using PRF. As a result, a spongy fibrin matrix can be produced, signaling the platelets to gradually release their growth factors. PRF’s growth factors are released over a week, whereas PRP does so only for a few hours. The effects of this delayed release are believed to be stronger and more long-lasting.

Is PRF Better Than PRP?

At Montreal’s Face MD Clinic, we specialize in cutting-edge facial rejuvenation treatments to help our patients achieve a youthful and radiant appearance. Two of the most popular treatments we offer are Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). But what’s the difference between these two treatments, and which one is more effective for facial rejuvenation?

  • PRF is a blood-based treatment that uses the patient’s own blood to promote tissue regeneration and healing. During PRF treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn and processed to separate platelets and plasma. This concentrated mixture of growth factors is then injected into the skin to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
  • PRP, on the other hand, uses a higher concentration of platelets and plasma, obtained through a similar process, to promote tissue rejuvenation.
  • PRP is injected directly into the skin to enhance collagen production and promote skin healing. Both PRF and PRP are highly effective for facial rejuvenation, but the choice of treatment depends on each patient’s needs and goals.
  • PRF is a more natural, minimally invasive treatment that provides gradual but long-lasting results, especially under the eyes for complexion and volume. PRP is recommended primarily for hair loss and for microneedling applications on the face to improve skin quality.

How Long Does a PRF Injection Session Last?

The duration of PRF injections depends on several factors, including the size of the treatment area and the number of injections needed to achieve the desired results.

In general, PRF injections typically last about 30 to 45 minutes. This includes the time needed to prepare the PRF solution, inject it into the treatment area, and massage the area to ensure even distribution. It’s important to follow post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare provider to maximize the benefits of the treatment and minimize any side effects.

This may involve avoiding certain activities or using cold compresses to reduce swelling. Overall, you can expect the entire PRF injection process to take around an hour, from the consultation to post-treatment instructions.

What to Expect During a Consultation?

A consultation for PRF injections usually begins with a discussion of your goals and concerns. Your healthcare provider will ask you questions about your medical history and perform a physical examination to determine if PRF is suitable for you.

They may also take photos of your face to document your current appearance and use them as a reference to track your progress after treatment. During the consultation, your healthcare provider will also discuss the potential risks and benefits of PRF, as well as the expected treatment outcomes.

They will provide you with instructions for pre and post-treatment care. It’s important to be honest and open with your healthcare provider during the consultation. This will help them determine the best treatment plan for you and ensure you are aware of all potential risks and benefits of PRF injections.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used for PRF Injections?

We use a topical anesthetic cream for mild anesthesia. Injectable fibrin is a simple and quick process, allowing you to return to your activities immediately after injections.

How Long Do the Effects of PRF Injections Last?

The duration of PRF injection results can vary based on the patient’s health, age, and specific condition being treated. However, on average, the results of PRF injections can last from 6 to 12 months or more.

How Long Do Bruises Last After an Injection Session?

It’s common to experience some swelling and bruising after PRF injections. The amount of swelling and bruising can vary from person to person, but it typically resolves within a few days.

If you experience swelling or bruising, it’s important to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare provider. They may recommend using cold compresses or avoiding certain activities to help reduce swelling.

If swelling and bruising do not improve after a few days or if you have concerns, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider. They will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

How to Find the Best PRF Injector in Montreal?

Several factors should be considered when choosing your PRF injector:

  • Does this person have a deep understanding of facial anatomy?
  • Does this person use a safe injection technique?
  • Does this person know all the risks and how to manage potential injection complications?
  • Do you feel confident during the consultation?

These factors will help you make an informed decision and choose a qualified and experienced healthcare provider for PRF injections.
