Double Chin Treatment Montreal

Clinique Face MD

A non-surgical injectable treatment for double chin

Get rid of submental fullness with deoxycholic acid injection

Double-chin injections in Montreal — a non-surgical option for submental fat reduction.

What is deoxycholic acid injection?

Deoxycholic acid injection is a non-surgical option that can be performed in 15 to 30 minutes and tailored to address submental fullness — commonly known as a double chin. The active ingredient is approved by Health Canada, and the procedure delivers a precisely measured dose of deoxycholic acid into the fat beneath the chin in a grid-like pattern. The injection is designed to reduce the appearance of submental fat and refine the jawline while contributing to the overall shape of the lower face.

What are the benefits of a fat-dissolving injection?

Long-Lasting Results –

A fat-dissolving injection helps maintain a contoured facial profile over time, since the cells eliminated during treatment do not return.

Quick Treatment –

In and out in about 30 minutes.

Minimal Pain & Stress –

No need for general anesthesia and minimal pain after the procedure.

Very Low Risk –

Minor side effects occur in less than 2% of patients

Very Low Risk –

Minor side effects occur in less than 2% of patients.

A non-invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery –

The submental injection requires no surgical incisions, so it does not produce a surgical scar.

How does the double chin treatment work?

The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid (DCA), an organic compound naturally present in the body that helps digest dietary fat. When deoxycholic acid is injected into the fat beneath the chin, it disrupts the membrane of the fat cells in the submental area, causing them to dissolve. Once these cells are eliminated, they no longer store or accumulate fat in that location.

What happens during the procedure?

The procedure begins with a consultation to discuss the patient’s chin profile goals and to estimate the number of treatments the physician considers appropriate. Once the physician and patient agree on a suitable treatment plan and the candidate is deemed eligible, the patient is ready for their first session of submental injection.

Potential side effects of a deoxycholic acid injection

The majority of patients receiving a submental injection experience no significant side effects. Possible temporary effects include bruising, soreness, and — uncommonly — short-term involvement of nearby muscles. Serious adverse events are rare but may include skin or nerve injury. Careful selection of injection sites is used to help minimize these risks.

What to avoid following a fat-dissolving injection

Immediately after the treatment, makeup should be avoided for 24 hours, or until any pinpoint bleeding has stopped. For two weeks after the procedure, patients are advised to avoid hot environments and direct sun exposure. If redness or swelling is still present after two weeks, heat and sun exposure should continue to be avoided until the area has fully settled.

How do I know if a double chin treatment is right for me?

A fat-dissolving injection can be a suitable option for many adults who would like to address excess submental fat without the recovery time associated with surgery. Ideal candidates for a double chin treatment in Montreal are individuals who:

  • Are dealing with mild to moderate submental fullness
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Do not have excess skin in the treatment area
  • Are unhappy with submental fullness due to genetics or weight gain
  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Eat well and exercise but find that submental fullness will not resolve

Patients may not be candidates if they have had prior surgery on the neck or chin, have difficulty swallowing, or have bleeding disorders. Individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed are also not eligible, since the safety of deoxycholic acid injection in those circumstances has not been established.

FAQ

Patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure. A topical or local anesthetic is used to numb the area before the injections begin. The injection sites are marked beforehand for accuracy, and patients typically receive 20 to 50 small injections under the lower jawline during a single session. Patients may be asked to remain reclined briefly afterward, and a cold compress may be offered to help with any warmth or swelling.

After consulting with one of our physicians here in Montreal, the injection treatment usually takes anywhere between 15-20 minutes. Depending on the severity of the submental fullness, you may need anywhere between two to six treatments to achieve your desired results with Belkyra however usually optimal results are achieved between 2-4 treatment sessions spaced a month apart. Your doctor will estimate the number of treatments you will require during your initial consultation which you can then continue to reevaluate during each treatment session and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

Because the procedure is non-surgical, downtime is generally minimal compared with surgical alternatives, with no sutures or surgical scars. The treated area is often warm to the touch initially, and temporary swelling may last from a few days to about a week. Patients can usually resume normal activities right away, though they are encouraged to let comfort guide their return to physical activity. Gentle massage of the area several times a day can help reduce numbness, tightness, or swelling. As the swelling subsides, patients gradually see refinement of the lower face and neck contour.
