The technique

FUE (follicular unit extraction) removes follicles one by one from the donor area at the back of the head and places them in the area being treated. It does not leave a linear scar. We use the SAFE System, which separates each follicular unit from the surrounding tissue with a blunt-tipped punch. Between extraction and placement, grafts are kept in a PRP solution.

Procedure day

  • Arrival in the morning and a review of the treatment-area plan
  • Local anesthesia of the donor and recipient areas
  • Follicle extraction with the SAFE System
  • Grafts kept in a PRP solution, then placed
  • Home the same day; the procedure usually takes most of the day

Frequently asked questions

How much is a hair transplant at Clinique Face MD?

$7,500 CAD plus taxes for one full FUE hair transplant session, up to 2,500 grafts, usually for one area (the front or the crown), including PRP during the procedure and follow-ups. The in-person surgical consultation is $195 and PRP sessions after the procedure are extra.

What is included in the price?

The FUE procedure with the SAFE System, PRP during the session and follow-up visits at the clinic: about one week after, at six months, then as needed.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia. You feel the anesthetic injections at the start; after that, most patients mainly feel pressure. Discomfort in the following days is usually managed with the medication your doctor recommends.

How long is the recovery?

Scabs usually fall off within 7 to 10 days. Many patients return to desk work after a few days; your doctor will tell you when you can resume exercise.

When will I see results?

New growth usually begins around 3 to 4 months and continues for several months; it is assessed at the six-month follow-up and the final appearance becomes clearer around 12 months. Progress varies from person to person and no result can be guaranteed.

Who is a good candidate?

It depends on factors such as the density of your donor area, your pattern of hair loss and your health. Candidacy is determined at the in-person consultation.

How does PRP help during the procedure?

PRP is a platelet concentrate prepared from your own blood. During the procedure, grafts are kept in a PRP solution between extraction and placement to support their viability. Results vary from person to person.

Who performs the procedure?

The Face MD medical team, led by head and neck surgeons practicing in facial plastic surgery.
