Facial Plastic Surgery Textbook by Dr. Moubayed
Our medical director Dr. Sami Moubayed recently co-edited and authored a comprehensive textbook on facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Published by Jaypee in 2020, “Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Concepts, Questions, Answers” serves as a valuable guide for surgeons and trainees in this multifaceted specialty. It was born out of a genuine need for a comprehensive resource in the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, particularly to aid those preparing for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) board exam.
As one of the editors, Dr. Moubayed oversaw the project and authored key chapters himself. The goal was to create an all-encompassing reference covering the core topics within facial plastic surgery. With over 300 pages spanning 30 chapters, the book achieves this through in-depth reviews of nasal surgery, facelifts, blepharoplasty, injectables, lasers, craniofacial procedures, and more.
Dr. Moubayed contributed chapters on rhinoplasty, rhytidectomy, blepharoplasty, facial implants, and non-surgical rejuvenation. He leveraged decades of collective experience to provide clinical pearls, decision algorithms, and abundant illustrations depicting his nuanced techniques. The book also includes over 1,200 exam-style questions and answers to reinforce learning.
In the preface, Dr. Moubayed explains the motivation behind creating this definitive guide: “To advance education and improve outcomes in facial plastic surgery through a comprehensive text summarizing today’s concepts, techniques, and evidence.” We are proud to have our director contribute to this valuable new resource that will help the next generation of head and neck surgeon practicing in facial plastic surgerys.
The textbook is thoughtfully organized into five sections, each addressing distinct areas of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery:
Basic Principles: Covers foundational knowledge and surgical techniques.
Rhinoplasty: Addresses both esthetic and functional considerations.
Esthetic Facial Surgery: Explores procedures aimed at enhancing facial appearance.
Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures: Examines minimally invasive options.
Reconstructive Surgery: Encompasses topics such as pediatric and craniofacial surgery.
